Double The Fun

I’m not sure if you are all aware of this, but there is  Call of Duty 4 Double XP Weekend happening right now! Also, if you don’t have the Variety Map Pack, it’s half off, and there’s a new Hardcore HQ mode now available. What are you doing sitting around reading this garbage? Get out there and pwn!

I’m so close to my next Prestige I can taste it. Right now I have about 20 minutes before I have to leave for work; just enough time for a few rounds. See you on the battlefield!

Hey, Remember Me?

Today I played Call of Duty 4 for the first time in months, and man is it still impressive. Compared to games that have come out since November 2007, there still isn’t anything that looks and plays as good, especially on the multiplayer front. It was actually about 30 minutes in before I remembered that there is another Call of Duty that’s a whole year fresher, that at this moment I wouldn’t even consider playing over part four. I just can’t wait until the next one.

One Of These Things IS Like The Other.

These are the discs of Call of Duties 5 and 4, respectivaly. Is it just me, or do they look a little too much like each other. I don’t know why Treyarch decided to use essentially the exact same design on their disc as pasrt 4, which came out a year earlier.

I usderstand that COD4 sold so well, that blurring the lines between the games is probably a good business model, but you still have to be our own game. I think they should have went with the “World at War” theme and shown a map of the world with different battlelines or fronts hilighted. Someone hire me now.

I’m No Sam Fisher, but…

Here is an under-utilized perk in Call of Duty 4: UAV Jammer.

Stealth is a very important aspect of the game, and the ability to become a ghost on the enemy’s radar is invaluable. Teams become dependent on those red enemy dots, especially when, “Our UAV is online!” comes over the mic. But if you don’t show up on their crutch of a radar, no other perk is nearly as valuable.

Keep that in mind the next time I knife you in the Overgrown attic.

Back in the Fray

You’d never believe it, but for the first time in several months Mark, Tyler and I all played Call of Duty 4 together online. You see, Tyler’s had internet issues for just about forever, and Mark has had a vampire’s gaming schedule, so to get the three of us together at the same time is a bit of a surprise.

We only had time for one threevue round, since my wife and I had to meet a friend at a really classy restaurant called Hooters for dinner.

Call of Dual Screen

This morning, I noticed my DS looking a little lonely, so I thought I’d show it a little love. I ended up playing the first few levels of Call of Duty 4 DS, and was actually pretty surprised with its quality. The DS is defnitely not set up for hardcore FPS-ing; the only other one I really ever spent time on was Metroid Prime: Hunters, which did a lot of things right. The Metroid controls were solid (and even better, customizable), and because it didn’t have to look realistic, it looked pretty sharp. A game based in reality, such as COD4, suffers visually from the limited DS capabilities, but this one doesn’t try to do too much, so it works out.

The other combat shooter I played on the DS a couple months ago was Brothers in Arms. It was a third person shooter, but there were definite similarities. I ended up playing all the way through that one, mainly because it took about thirty seconds to beat, but they were thirty good seconds (reminds me of myself).

I’m not sure if I’ll commit to playing all the way through COD4DS, but it’s definitely worth spening a little time on.

You Served Us Well

Happy Memorial Day, everybody. If you got the day off, I hope you are spending it with someone you love, or are at least exchanging massive amounts of texts with them. If you have to work, I hope you make a lot of money.

Let’s not forget what this day is all about; honoring those that have died in military service. All three of us here at threevue either were or are in the military, and we are lucky enough to have made it out alive (although Russ almost had a heart attack on Wii Fit the other day). Some of us, though, weren’t that fortunate. I propose a moment of silence while we commemorate the following fallen heroes, not all of which are American, but deserved to be honored nonetheless.

Sgt. Paul Jackson USMC
Sgt. “Soap” McTavish 22nd SAS
Capt. Price 22nd SAS
Gaz 22nd SAS
Lt. Vasquez USMC
Staff Sgt. Griggs USMC

God bless you brave soldiers.

Death Cab for Duty

This is a little eerie since I just posted about their new album the other day, but two-fourths of Death Cab for Cutie will be online tomorrow night playing COD4.

I’ve never done this “Game With Fame” thing, but if I was going to, tomorrow would be the time to do so. I’ve been a fan of the band for close to ten years now, and it would be pretty sweet to shoot them in the face. Even if it is just the bassist and drummer.

Monday, May 12th = Christmas!!

So, tomorrow marks the day that I will be getting my Xbox 360 back from the grave/Microsoft, only 40 days after it started wigging out on me. I could make some sort of Jesus and his 40 days in the desert reference here, but I get enough comparisons already.

Now what am I going to do first? Probably play a bit of GTA4, since I haven’t even seen it in action yet. Maybe some COD4. I’ve also had a hankering for The Orange Box, too. Man, so much to choose from!

Why hellllooo there, lovely and trashy lady, I’ll be seeing you tomorrow…

The Circle Hawaii Tournament

This afternoon, Mark and I witnessed a gaming tournament courtesy of The Circle Hawaii. And a reader came, too! Oh and by the way Circle Hawaii, if you’re hiring, Mark would like to work for you guys.

It wasn’t a very large gathering, but considering our location and the fact that it was Easter Sunday, I would say it was a pretty good turnout. I think it was that $1000 grand prize. They had Halo 3, Call of Duty 4 and Super Smash Bros. Brawl competitions, but the latter we didn’t really watch. We witnessed the final match of Halo 3, which was a blowout, and some pretty intense COD4 action.

Maybe next time there will be a Team Threevue. We won’t win, but we’ll have the most character. And matching t-shirts.

movin’ on up

Fourth Prestige
I’m moving right along in my COD4 online ranks, just a few moments ago turning over into my fourth prestige. I got to this one a little quicker than the others with some help from my brother, Cody. We got into the same free-for-all matches a few times and took turns letting each other get the more difficult challenges. I finally got the “What the?” challenge doing this, where you kill an enemy by shooting his explosive through a wall. It was a lot of fun.

It’s still amazing to me when I see people that are all the way to the end of their tenth prestige, which is the max. I mean, it’s no secret, I play a lot, and I just started number four. These guy must have ass grooves the size of the Grand Canyon worn into their couches.

my gripes: call of duty 4 multiplayer scoring

Perks
I have two quick gripes regarding Call of Duty 4 multiplayer. The first has to do with the way that a winner is determined in deathmatches. Currently, it is solely based off of who got the most kills. I think this is a bit unfair, because even though a player got 15 kills, dying 27 times certainly didn’t help his team out any. And in free-for-all deathmatches, who do you think had the better round? The skilled player that barely lost with 24 kills and only 5 deaths, or the bullet sponge that won with 25 kills and 20 deaths?

I think that next to the final standings at the end of each match, there should also be a numerical kill-to-death ratio. The guy with the 24 kills and 5 deaths would have 4.80 ratio, and the other guy would only have a 1.04 kill-per-death total (p.s. I came up with those figures in my head, I’m a mathematical genius).

Here’s one more gripe that some may, and some may not agree with: I believe martyrdom kills should count toward a kill streak. If I’m in the midst of a four kill streak, I die, and my martyrdom kills someone, that should count as a five kill streak and should respawn with an airstike. I feel that the most fair thing to do would be to count all kills up until the point of respawning. Last stand kills count toward a streak, so why can’t martyrdom, just because your heart hasn’t completely stopped yet? That hardly seems fair to me. But who am I?

let’s do this

COD4
via Joystiq

The long-awaited Call of Duty 4 patch is now available on Xbox 360. It contains some tweaks, such as a better kill-cam that will show you how I kill you with an airstike or an explosive. Also, the sniper rifle and ACOG accuracies are supposed to be improved, but I rarely ever use those anyways. I just downloaded it and played a few free-for-all matches, but the only thing I noticed so far is that there is now a little Infinity-Ward graphic in the lower-right of the screen on the pregame lobbies and load screens.

He’ll always be Gob to me

Will Arnett was my favorite actor on Arrested Development. He was brutally funny as a total dick brother and fit in perfectly with the top quality cast. So it’s cool to hear that he’s a fan of hardline FPSing. It just seems to me that he’s playing down the passion so as to escape the stigma that  afflicts adult, male gamers.

Man, if I was playing COD and I heard the scintillating and sultry voice of Will Arnett comming over my headset I would have a hard time backstabbing him if he were on the opposite team. I’d still do it though… gotta live by the code.

“COD4 PC mods” or “Damn you Xbox live DLC screening process!!!”

I’m a Xbox 360 guy, first and foremost. But back in the day I wielded a mouse and keyboard in the Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight arenas on the MSN Gaming Zone. I switched over for the same reson most people did, the price of upgrading hardware in order to meet the ever expanding system requirements was too much.

For years I have been happy with the decision, that is until this year…

There were always map packs and skins to download. Now all I want is the ability to download the content that Valve’s Steam subscribers are privy to, and all of the Team Fortress maps and tweaks on the way, and now COD4 mods.

If detonating a quarter mile length of C4 is wrong then I would prefer not o be correct.
