“You Should Know” Feature Is Done

Just a quick note to let you know that I’m not going to record any more “You Should Know” features. Reasons:

1. Now that we’ve tailored our podcast to feature a new band every week, playing 4-5 songs from a band of my choice every three weeks is a sweet enough deal that I don’t feel our readers are losing any content, really.

2. It’s kind of hard to record and release two different podcasts/subscriptions every week.

31 episodes was a pretty good run, and believe me, I haven’t run out of music or anything. You’ll still get an audio assault every week during our podcast. I hope you were exposed to a new band or two.

You Should Know: Silver Scooter

Silver Scooter was a band from Austin, TX. Their singer now plays under the moniker Super XX Man, which is a pretty dumb name.

You Should Know: Rocky Votolato

Rocky Votolato is a singer/songwriter from Seattle and the former singer of Waxwing. My friend dated his sister for a while, which basically means that nothing but it’s interesting nonetheless.

You Should Know: The New Year

The New Year is the “new” band (now 10 years old) from the main guys of Bedhead, one of my all-time favorite bands. Lucky for us, they don’t try that much new stuff with this new band.

You Should Know: The Advantage

An instrumental NES cover band on a video game website; sounds like a match made in heaven, right? Right.

You Should Know: The Juliana Theory

The Juliana Theory released three lousy albums and one halfway good album with some really excellent tracks. And really bad album art.

Shearwater is the former side project (now main project) of former Okkervil River member Jonathan Meiburg. Each of their albums are good for their own reasons.

You Should Know: Phantom Planet

Phantom Planet was a band that featured Jason Schwartzman on drums for a while, as well as having a song featured as The O.C.‘s theme song. They went on “indefinite hiatus” last year.

You Should Know: John Vanderslice

Twentieth episode! That calls for a celebration, so I had my good friend Fred provide the narrative to this week’s feature. You may recognize Fred as the guy who says “Threevue.com” before every episode of the feature. I figured I would give him some time in the spotlight this week, since he takes time out of his busy day every week to say “Threevue.com” for us. And he’s never late.

John Vanderslice, former MK Ultra frontman, is an excellent singer/songwriter and one of the main inspirations for my own music.

You can buy his albums at barsuk.com, and you can also find a butt-ton of free mp3s (some full albums, including the MK Ultra albums) on his site.

You Should Know: Gatsby’s American Dream

Dear bands,
If you make an album about dinosaurs, I give it an episode on our You Should Know feature. See: Gatsby’s American Dream’s In the Land of Lost Monsters.

You can buy most of their albums and some other stuff for cheap at their online store, and you can get In the Land of Lost Monsters on Last.fm (which took a bit of detective work, since the EP’s label went under some years ago).
